A peculiar terraced residential district has been built on the bank of the picturesque Potong River in the capital city when monumental edifices leading the civilization and development of Korean-style socialism are rising up one after another according to the grand blueprint for national prosperity presented at the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
The Potong Riverside Terraced Residential District has brought about another radical change in Pyongyang. It is a proud creation of the new era intensively showing the people-first idea of the Party Central Committee which regards it as the long-aspired work to provide the people with the best material and cultural welfare and the strategy for development of Juche-oriented architecture.
The inaugural ceremony of the Potong Riverside Terraced Residential District was grandly held on April 13.
The respected Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the WPK and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, attended the ceremony.
Present there were Jo Yong Won, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and Secretary for Organizational Affairs of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Kim Tok Hun, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and Vice-President of the State Affairs Commission and Premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK.
Also on hand were Ri Il Hwan, Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, Kim Yong Hwan, Chief Secretary of the Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the WPK, Ri Hi Yong, First Deputy Department Director of the Central Committee of the WPK, officials of the Party Central Committee, officials of the ministries, national agencies and the Party and government organs in the capital city, officials of the construction units, builders, meritorious persons and their families to live in Kyongru-dong and Pyongyang citizens.
The national anthem of the DPRK was solemnly played.

He touched on the great excitement at the socialist downtown best in the world built on the sacred land representing the personality and breath of the great leader Kim Il Sung, intensively showing the noble outlook of the Party Central Committee on the people. He said it is a firm will of the Party Central Committee and a consistent policy of the government of the DPRK to treasure the sweat and patriotic conscience of the working people more than any valuables and make the people supporting the Party and the state with their diligent efforts enjoy the best civilization before anybody else.
He also said the completion of the Potong Riverside Terraced Residential District intuitively shows that it is not a thing to be done in the distant future to see the day when all the Korean people would enjoy a civilized and happy life and increases the patriotic zeal and creative joy of all people building up their homes beautifully with their own hands.
He noted that the inhabitants in Kyongru-dong would keep today’s emotion forever and continue to lead a worthwhile life as the treasures of the country and the vanguard of the collective. He expressed the belief that the beautiful Kyongru-dong will be praised forever as the village of the true patriots supporting the country with their pure conscience and warm enthusiasm.

He warmly waved back to the crowds raising enthusiastic cheers.
He met Ri Chun Hi and Choe Song Won, Chief Announcers of the Radio-Television Broadcasting Committee of the DPRK, and Tong Thae Gwan, Editorial Writer of the Rodong Sinmun Offices, standing among the cheering crowds and warmly congratulated them.
Ri Chun Hi expressed her gratitude to Kim Jong Un for the luxurious house. Warmly pressing her hand, Kim Jong Un stepped toward apartment No. 7 where she would live.
He dropped in at her flat and looked round the living room and other rooms, kindly listening to the impressions of her family members like their father. And he took measures lest she should have any inconveniences in walking up and down the stairs in her flat.
He listened with pleasure to the unceremonious talk of the old announcer that the house with the best living conditions is like a hotel and that all her family members were so grateful for the benevolent care of the Party that they wept all night.
He said it is the sincere attitude of the WPK that there is nothing to spare for such treasures of the country as Ri Chun Hi who has lived a noble life together with the microphone of revolution given by the Party over 50-odd years since her girlhood. He highly estimated her merits, saying she is still speaking for the Party and Juche Korea with youthful vigour and passion though she is nearing 80.
He said the veteran women announcers, a pride of our Party, are doing a very important work of announcing the policies of the Party and government and the prestige of the state all over the world. He told her to keep making a success in the work with burning passion and play a big role in training reserves to shoulder the future of broadcasting and entrusted her with the responsible task, showing his deep trust in her.
He expressed the belief that Ri Chun Hi would work vigorously in the future, too, as befits a spokeswoman for the Party Central Committee and had a photo taken with her family.
Kim Jong Un also called at the flats of Announcer Choe Song Won and Editorial Writer Tong Thae Gwan to warmly congratulate their families and had photos taken with them.
He said to the householders expressing their thanks time and again in tears: The word of people’s society is not a slogan to our Party regarding it as its climate to serve the people unconditionally. Our people firmly supporting their sovereignty with their hands are the proud masters who should enjoy all the civilization and happiness on this land.
Kim Jong Un warmly said he longed for the great leader Kim Il Sung all the more when the luxurious residential district for the people was inaugurated in the place associated with his life on the occasion of the significant Day of the Sun.
He continued: It is the duty and noble obligation for the descendants of Kim Il Sung to live true to his will. Our Party has worked as he desired. Perhaps he will be satisfied to know that his old residence was removed and a happy cradle of patriots and meritorious persons has been built there. He will be very pleased as he seems to embrace the people he loved so much all his life.
Shaking hands with the meritorious persons reluctant to part with him, Kim Jong Un wished them a happy future time and again and kindly promised to make time to visit them again.
After the inaugural ceremony, the meritorious persons and their families to live in Kyongru-dong and working people in Pyongyang looked round the dwelling houses.
Seeing with admiration the palatial houses with the best living conditions, they keenly felt the noble intention and warm benevolence of the Party Central Committee which regards the construction for the people’s happiness as the patriotic work of lasting significance to create a civilized future.
