A spokesman for the DPRK Olympic Committee gave a statement to media on the 16th as regards the extreme shamelessness of the Japanese sports circles dirtying the sacred idea and spirit of the Olympic movement to grab the inalienable territory of Korea.
The statement said:
The Organizing Committee of the Tokyo Olympic Games notated Tok Island, part of the Korean territory, as “part of the Japanese territory” on the map of relay carrying the Olympic torch posted on the official homepage of the 32nd Olympics. When a torrent of denunciation and protest rain down on it, the committee says “it is a merely geographical expression” and “any political will was not reflected”.
Tok Island is our sacred territory which is indisputable either from the viewpoint of international law or in historical and geographical aspects. The political issue and the territorial issue cannot remain separated and it is a brazen-faced and preposterous sophistry to notate part of the Korean territory as part of their “territory” and describe it as a geographical conception.
The Organizing Committee of the Tokyo Olympic Games is resorting to such despicable acts by abusing the opportunity of hosting the Olympics. Lurking behind it is a sinister plot to make a precedent capable of notating Tok Island as “part of the Japanese territory” in the coming events of international sports games and convince the international community of the dominium over Tok Island.
The DPRK Olympic Committee condemns the despicable acts of the Organizing Committee of the Tokyo Olympic Games to insult the sacred Olympic charter and idea and justify their moves for seizure of territory by availing themselves of the opportunity of hosting the games, and cannot but call the International Olympic Committee to account for its double-faced behaviour of having connived at it.
The Organizing Committee of the 32nd Olympic Games should, though belatedly, correct the map of relay carrying the Olympic torch which notated Tok Island as “part of the Japanese territory” and the International Olympic Committee should act properly with impartiality as befitting the international organization of leading the Olympic movement on a worldwide scale, the statement stressed.
