A total of over 3.1 million students and children have taken part in extracurricular activities at the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace in the last five years since it underwent a facelift.
A lot of schoolchildren are preparing themselves to become scientists, artistes and sportspeople in the future at the rooms for basic science, science and technology, national musical instrument, Korean dance and fine art groups and the swimming pool and gyms.
In the course of this, they produced collections of writings, songs and art and calligraphic works. Some of them were awarded the top prize at the international exhibition of juveniles’ fine arts held in Khabarovsk, Russia, and highly appreciated at the 6th national pencil drawing festival in celebration of the Day of the Shining Star and several other contests and exhibitions.
National programming and multimedia authoring contests of information technology groups of schoolchildren’s palaces and halls are good occasions for the hobby group members of the palace to demonstrate the talents.
Over 800 schoolchildren at the palace have obtained technical qualifications so far.
Members of the sports groups have snatched more than 1,500 medals at Taekwon-Do, swimming and other sporting events, while those of art groups who participated in the folk song contest of art group members of schoolchildren’s palaces and halls and the individual art contest of schoolchildren drew the admiration of experts for their exceptional artistic abilities.
The hobby group members of the palace gave over 200 rounds of artistic performances including the schoolchildren’s concert in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the Korean Children’s Union and New Year performances.
