“I’ve been working as a chief coach of the DPRK women’s football team for over 10 years. In those days, I grew to be Kim Jong Il Prize Winner and Labour Hero and was selected as one of the 10 best national football coaches four times.
Whenever people congratulate me coaching the women’s football team, I cannot but express my thanks to the respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who has trained the DPRK women’s football team as a powerful one of the world.
It happened on August 10, Juche 104 (2015) when our women’s football team returned home after winning the 2015 EAFF Women’s East Asia Cup.
I was unable to calm myself down in the airliner and the moment I descended from it, I was surprised to see Kim Jong Un waving his hand toward us with a bright smile on his face.
I made a report of victory to him and he hugged me tightly, saying time and again that we had made great efforts and played really good games.
Warm tears streamed down my cheeks.
Kim Jong Un met me and our women footballers who took the first place in an international game in July Juche 102 (2013). When we were making preparations for the 17th Asian Games the next year, he himself watched the test match and gave valuable instructions on completing the sports technique, tactical system and training methods.
As we had trained hard with his precious instructions as a guideline, we could become the winner of the 17th Asian Games and later, take the first place in the 2015 EAFF Women’s East Asia Cup.
Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message to us first before others when the news of our victory was reported.
In the message he sent warm congratulations to our reliable women footballers who had won decisive victories in succession to become the honourable winner. And he highly appreciated us, saying we demonstrated the dignity and might of a powerful country of Juche all over the world and provided a proud gift to the 70th anniversary of national liberation and the 70th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
And he let us be wrapped in red and blue flags of the Republic who had come back home with honour of victors, putting us forward before the motherland and the people.
Looking back upon the emotion of the day, I am more firmly convinced that as we are led by Kim Jong Un, the future of our sports is bright and the life of our sportspersons shines.
Always keeping his deep trust, I will devote all my energy to developing the women’s football of the country.”
