Rimyongsu Falls in Rimyongsu-dong of Samjiyon City, Ryanggang Province, unfold a wonderful winter scene peculiar to the Mt Paektu area. The waterfall, which flows down like a piece of hanging silk cloth, was formed one million years ago by erosion of basalt spouted from Mt Paektu.
The falls have nine main streams and countless small waterfalls between them.
And its water temperature does not fall below four degrees centigrade even in winter.
This rare and marvellous groundwater falls have been registered as a natural monument in the country for its scenic beauty and placed under government protection.
