The Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea noted that the inexhaustible strategic assets on which we should rely today are science and technology, adding that science and technology should be a beacon that illuminates the path ahead and take the lead in development at present when the economic work is faced with many difficulties.

This passage serves to heighten the sense of mission of the officials of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea as well as all the scientists and technicians.

At present, our national power and the people’s demand have grown remarkably and the building of a powerful socialist country requires us to radically speed up economic construction.

Here, scientists and technicians take a very important part.

Although the hostile forces who do not want us to be stronger and well-off will make a more vicious attempt to hamper our development than before, we will surmount all obstacles and open up a broad avenue of self-sufficiency and prosperity on the strength of science and technology.

Well aware that the shortcut to economic development and way of effecting a rapid upturn lie in science and technology, we will efficiently solve sci-tech problems through strenuous research and with passion, great practical ability and collective wisdom.

The federation will arrange various sci-tech events for its organizations at all levels, such as the 35th national sci-tech festival, symposiums, presentations and exhibitions, so as to boost exchanges of technologies and experience and generalize the techniques of advanced units in time.

In this year of the 40th anniversary of the start of the April 15 technical innovation shock brigade movement, it will bring about a fresh improvement in this drive and solve sci-tech problems arising in putting production on a normal track at industrial establishments by aiming the movement for winning the title of model technical innovation unit at integrating science and technology with production.

It will ensure that everyone contributes to production by dint of science and technology by improving the technical qualifications of its members and widely diffusing advanced sci-tech knowledge among working people.
