Revolutionary Turn Made in Education

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which is regarding it as its goal to build an educational power and talents power, brought about a revolutionary change in education in Juche 108(2019) as well.

A revolution in education is, in essence, revolutionization of teachers, and teachers are outpost of the revolution in education. The qualifications of teachers are the quality of education, the ability of students and the speed of advance of the country.

The 14th National Conference of Teachers was held in the capital city Pyongyang in September on an unprecedentedly large scale amid great concern and expectation of the entire people and teachers across the country.

On the occasion of the conference, the educators made efforts to train qualitatively talented personnel to shoulder the socio-economic development under the slogan “Let Us Guarantee the Future of the Country by Training the Students as Good Revolutionary Personnel!”.

“Voice of Korea” introduced educators devoting themselves to students through programs of different titles including “A Teacher Has Trained an International Concours Prize Winner”, “More Than 50 Years for the Rising Generations” and “Wealth of a Family of Educators”.

Many other educators have become strong roots for education of the rising generations.

Strong root bears good fruits.

DPRK students won two consecutive victories in the International “Code Chef” Internet Program Contests in April and May. And in April they bagged a silver medal in the world finals of the 43rd International Program Contest of Students and were awarded the prize of best student in the east Asian region.

They also won 28 medals including 11 gold medals at the 28th World Memory Championships, coming first in the total standings of countries.

The President of the Council of the World Memory Championships said with admiration: It is really beyond my imagination. All the six players from the DPRK won the International Grand Master of Memory. After all, the DPRK broke the record of the World Memory Championships.

Korean students won a great popularity in the Third Moscow Khrainev International Piano Concours held in March.

According to the custom, 14-year-old Choe Jang Hung, who had taken the special place in the previous concours, performed in the opening performance. As to him, the Chairperson of the Jury of the Concours said: He is a pride of the Khrainev Concours and also that of the world musical circles. The DPRK will produce a greater number of world-famous musicians like Choe Jang Hung in the future.

In the concours Kim Ji Won was awarded the Diploma of the International Concours Prize Winner in the second division(age of 12-16) and Pae Yon Ju the Diploma of Special Performance in the third division(age of 17-22).

6-year-old Yu Jin A and Ri Kwon Yun and 15-year-old Kim Ye Song received special prizes in the 27th Chopin International Juvenile Piano Contest, one of the world-famous piano contests.

In the 16th International Festival “Moscow Welcomes Friends” held in Moscow of Russia between November 25 and December 3, the Oungum Quartet of the Kyongsang Kindergarten played musical pieces with unique timbre of Oungum, a national musical instrument of Korea, and diverse execution, causing a great sensation.

The Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the Festival and other artistes said with excitement: The audience were completely captivated by the fascinating performance of the Korean children. We really envy the excellent educational system of Korea which is training a lot of wonder musicians.

Many successes were also achieved in the improvement of educational conditions and environment when all people in the society were attaching importance and rendering active assistance to the education.

Efforts were made to modernize the educational facilities and turn the classrooms into multi-functional ones. As a result, more than 230 model schools were completed and over 4,400 multi-functional classrooms built across the country.

The DPRK gives full basic education to the new generations through the 12-year systematic education including the one-year preschool education at kindergarten, the five-year primary school education, the three-year junior middle school education and the three-year senior middle school education.

Likening the training of talents to a tree, education is like soil and the educational conditions and environment like manure.

An educational power and talents power will be built earlier in the DPRK as education is regarded as the most important of state affairs and as the lifeline of building a powerful socialist country.
